4/6 Roundup and News

LG 6, SK 5

The two teams traded three run first innings. SK first baseman Park Jeong-kwon started the scoring with a solo homer. Then came about 89 base hits from the two teams.

LG broke the 3-3 tie in the second inning with a two-run rally. Second baseman Kim Tae-wan doubled, advanced to third on a bunt and scored on a fielder's choice by center fielder Lee Dae-hyeong. Right fielder Jeong Eui-yoon drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Lee scored on a second wild pitch to give LG a 5-3 lead.

SK scored again in the fifth inning on an RBI single from catcher Jeong Sang-ho, but LG answered back in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double from third baseman Jeong Seong-hoon.

SK loaded the bases in the top of the eighth, but they could only push across a single run when left fielder Park Jae-sang was hit by a pitch.

Doosan 5, Nexen 2

Doosan started this game with a two-run rally in the first inning. With runners on second and third, left fielder Kim Hyeon-su hit a sac fly to plate the first run. Third baseman Kim Dong-ju poked a single through the middle to score the second run of the inning.

Doosan and Nexen traded runs in the second and third inning, but the Bears picked up some more insurance in the seventh. Right fielder Jeong Su-bin doubled down the line with a runner on first to give Doosan another run. Jeong would score on a single from Kim Hyeon-su.

Doosan starter Lee Seong-hyeon looked sharp. The lefty threw 5 1/3 innings(65 pitches, 47 strikes) of one-run baseball. Lee gave up only five hits and struck out two. Closer Lim Tae-hoon threw a perfect ninth for the save.

Hanhwa 10, KIA 9 (10)

Hanhwa HR - Choi Jin-haeng (2), Kang Dong-woo (1), Lee Dae-su (2)

This was a wild affair that saw the lead change hands five times over the course of the game and required extra innings to finish.

The score was tied at nine at the end of nine innings after right fielder Kang Dong-woo hit a two-run bomb to tie the game.

KIA closer Yoo Dong-hoon suffered a meltdown in the bottom of the tenth inning. On the second pitch of the inning, shortstop Lee Dae-su put a ball over the left field fence for a walk-off homer and earned himself a few dozen hugs from teammates. They skipped the traditional ice water shower and savage beating that we've seen over the past few seasons.

KIA shortstop Kim Seon-bin had a great effort in a losing cause. Shin went 3-6 with a homer, five RBIs and a run scored. KIA second baseman Ahn Chi-hong went 4-5 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored.

Hanhwa left fielder Choi Jin-haeng finished 2-4 with a homer, a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Samsung 1, Lotte 0

Where was this game last night. This game was over in less than three hours.

Samsung third baseman Park Seok-min doubled and scored on an RBI single from DH Ryan Garko in the second inning. That was all the scoring this game would see.

Samsung starter Yoon Seong-hwan threw six shutout innings(93 pitches, 66 strikes). He gave up only five hits while striking out four. Reliever Kwon Oh-joon threw a pair of scoreless innings of relief and closer Oh Seung-hwan struck out two during a perfect ninth inning.

Lotte starter Song Seung-joon was the tough luck loser. Song tossed seven innings(102 pitches, 73 strikes) and only gave up the one run. He allowed four hits and struck out nine.

I remember Garko from fantasy baseball a few years back... man it'd be cool to get a KBO fantasy league going. But already all set up and updated like Yahoo, I don't wanna be scouring box scores everyday...
