LG ace Bong Jung-geun has returned from his week in exile with the "Futures League." He'll either pitch today or tomorrow.
Last night's KIA/Doosan match up was washed out. Weather in the southern part of the peninsula was gross last night.

With the score tied at 4 in the bottom of the 7th inning, LG mounted a late rally. LG 2nd baseman Park Kyeong-su lead off the inning with a double. Park advanced to 3rd on a sac bunt from center fielder Lee Dae-hyeong. Samsung reliever Ahn Ji-man put his next slider in the dirt and it bounced away from catcher Jin Kab-yong. Park was able to scamper home for the go-ahead run. LG closer Shinya Okamoto was able to record the final 4 outs for the save. LG's Lee Dae-hyeong went 2-3 with an RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. While backup infielder Cho Dong-chan went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIs for Samsung.
Nexen 6, Lotte 5

Nexen actually trailed 5-0 in the 5th inning. Nexen rallied for 4-runs in the bottom of the 5th. The key hit came with 2 runs already in and the bases loaded for DH Song Ji-man. Song laced a Ryan Sadowski pitch into right to score a pair of runs and make the score 5-4. Nexen rallied again in the bottom of the 8th inning. With the score still 5-4 and 1 out, center fielder Jang Ki-yeong tripled. Jang scored easily on a double from 3rd baseman Kim Min-woo to tie the game at 5. After Doug Clark walked, shortstop Kang Jeong-ho poked a single through the right side to score the go ahead run. Nexen closer Son Seung-rok struck out 2 during a scoreless 9th to earn the save. Lotte 3rd baseman Lee Dae-ho went 2-3 with 3 RBIs while right fielder Song Ah-seop went 3-5 with a double and 3 runs scored.

It appears that SK starter Gary Glover found his 2009 form. The Glove had struggled in his previous starts, but seemed to get his 2010 season back on track last night. Glover tossed 7 innings(117 pitches, 68 strikes) of 1-run baseball. He allowed 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 7. SK scored in the 1st inning thanks to an RBI double from 1st baseman Park Jeong-kwon. The Wyverns added an insurance run in the 3rd inning when 2nd baseman Jeong Geun-woo scored from 1st on DH Kim Jae-hyeon's double. Jeong finished the evening 4-5 with a double and 4 runs scored. Jose Capellan didn't pitch well, but he wasn't as bad as his line suggests. Capellan gave up 5 runs on 10 hits, 2 walks and 1 hit batsman during his 6 2/3 innings(105 pitches, 63 strikes) of work. Most of the damage came during a 3-run 7th inning when it was obvious Capellan was out of gas. SK reliever Lee Seung-ho pitched the 8th and 9th inning. He struck out 5 of the 6 batters he faced.

4/9 Roundup and News
Sounds like trouble's brewing with LG. It sounds like their manager is an idiot. Demoting the team leader/ace after one start is not a good way to motivate the other players. I'm really regretting that 4th place prediction right now.
Doosan 7, LG 7

The first tie of the 2010 season came early this year. Doosan pitcher Les Walrond probably isn't going to finish the month in Korea. Walrond was yanked after 1 1/3 innings of work. He gave up 4 runs(3 earned) on 2 hits, 1 walk and 1 hit batsman. Doosan was facing a 5-2 deficit in the bottom of the 6th when the Bears mounted a rally. Doosan loaded the bases with one out. Shortstop Son Si-yeon drove in the first run of the inning with a sac fly to left. The next batter, center fielder Lee Jong-wook, singled to plate another run and stole second during the next at bat. Then, 2nd baseman Oh Jae-won ripped a single into left to drive in a pair and give Doosan a 6-5 advantage. LG battled back in the top of the 7th. With runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, Lee Jin-yeong hit a grounder to short. Doosan shortstop Son Si-yeon came home with the ball and the throw was off the mark. It bounced off the runners' helmet and rolled to the wall. Both runners would score on the play and LG would take a 7-6 lead. Doosan tied the game in the bottom of the 7th on an RBI ground out from right fielder Yoo Jae-wong. The two teams would trade zeroes for the next 5 innings. Doosan reliever Goh Chang-seong set down all ten men he faced in order during his 3 1/3 innings of relief.

Ken Kadokura was awesome during his 6 1/3 shutout innings(111 pitches, 70 strikes) of work. Kadokura gave up only 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 10. SK rallied for a pair of runs in the 2nd inning and Kadokura was able to make the W look easy. SK center fielder Kim Kang-min finished the game 3-4 with a stolen base, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. SK ran Nexen off the field with 5 stolen bases. 4 of the steals came during the second inning rally. Nexen starter Adrian Burnside was the tough luck loser. The Australian national tossed 6 innings(107 pitches, 68 strikes) of 2-run baseball. He gave up 8 hits while striking out 6.

Jin Kab-yong hit an RBI double to put Samsung on the board. Then, Lee Yeong-wook hit an "infield single"(it was a slow dribbler that pitcher fielded) to put runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. Both right fielder Kang Bong-gyu, third baseman Park Seok-min and left fielder Choi Hyeong-woo kept the line moving with RBI singles to make the score 5-4. Samsung would tie the game at 5 in the7th inning with a solo homer from Park. With the score tied at 5, nothing really happened until the bottom of the 12th. Park Seok-min lead off the inning with a walk and Heo Seung-min was brought in to pinch run. 1st baseman Chae Tae-in singled to right to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Backup shortstop Son Ju-in hit a double play ball to short. Chae was forced at second, but delivered a strong takeout slide that made 2nd baseman Ahn Chi-hong throw wildly. The ball got away from 1st baseman Choi Hee-seop and Heo was able to score on the error. Samsung wins.

This was a wild ballgame. I actually turned it off when Lotte was up 7-3 in the 4th inning, only to turn the game back on when I got home around 11:15 and watch for 45 minutes. The two teams combined for 29 runs on 51 hits and 10 walks. Only two of the 13 pitchers used DIDN'T give up runs. Karim Garcia went 7-7 with a homer, 6 RBIs, 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases(!). The two teams had rallies of four, five and six runs. There was a lot of effing offense in this game. Hanhwa rallied back from an 11-3 deficit and took a 14-12 lead after a 6-run rally in the 8th inning. Hanhwa took the lead on a 2-run off-the-wall double from infielder Lee Yeo-sang. Lotte rallied back in the bottom of the 8th. With runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, Karim Garcia singled to right to drive in a run and make the score 14-13. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Lotte executed a double steal and tied the game when pinch runner Hwang Seong-yong scampered across the plate. The two teams took a breather from scoring and traded zeroes for the next 3 1/2 innings. Hanhwa broke the tie in the top of the 12th on an RBI single from Lee Yeo-sang. Hanhwa reliever Ma Il-yeong put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs in the bottom of the 12th, but was able to get Lotte catcher Kang Min-ho to ground out to 2nd. Ma tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and was clearly out of gas by the end. Ma gave up 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2.

4/5 Roundup and News
LG ace Bong Jung-geun was sent down to the Futures League after Sunday's start. He probably won't be there for long, but that 4th place prediction for LG doesn't look very good right now.

Doosan simply dominating SK in every facet of the game. Doosan starter Lee Jae-woo tossed 6 shutout innings(73 pitches, 48 strikes). Lee gave up only 1 hit while striking out 4. SK starter Song Eun-beom didn't make it out of the 2nd inning. Doosan superstar Lee Hyeon-su tagged Song for a 3-run homer in the bottom of the first. Lee finished the day 2-5. After Song surrendered another run in the 2nd, Manager Kim Seong-geun had seen enough and gave Song an early hook. SK did about as well with Song as they did without. It's hard to score runs when you only have three baserunners during a 9-inning game. Doosan outfielder Yoo Jae-wong enjoyed a solid day at the plate. Yoo went 2-5 with a double, a homer, 2 RBIs and a run scored.

The runner was ruled out, Kang was called safe at first and the runner on third didn't advance. With two outs and runners still on 1st and third. Samsung outfielder Park Han-yi stepped to the plate. DePaula uncorked a 58 ft. slider and the ball rolled away from catcher Shin Kyeong-hyeon. The runner on third made a mad dash for the plate and was in standing up. With two outs and runners on 1st and 2nd, first baseman Park Jong-yoon laced a single up the middle to score the runner on 2nd and tie the game at 2. Both teams traded zeroes until the top of the 12th. Center fielder Lee Seung-hwa lead off the 12th inning with a double. Left fielder Son Ah-seob grounded out to first, but managed to advance Lee to third. The next batter, DH Hong Seung-hoon, hit a sac fly to center to score Lee from third. KIA's 2nd year 2nd baseman Ahn Chi-hong finished the day 3-3 with a triple and 2 runs scored. Lotte starter Lee Myeong-woo deserved better than a no decision. KBO Hosts a Benefit Dinner, Hilarity Insues...
I believe it was a dinner to honor the retiring Hanhwa Eagles manager, but I'm not entirely sure. All I know is LG ace Bong Jung-geun can wail. Bong performed a duet with Shin Eun-jin. The pair brought the house down by singing "Sweet Caroline." Meanwhile.........
A still-pissed off Ryu Hyeon-jin looks on...menacingly. Is it just me or is he about 3 seconds away from quitting baseball and taking a job as a top henchman for a Bond villain?
