I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV, but it probably would be a good idea if Kim took a few months off. Supposedly(again, not a doctor), this is the reason Kim has appeared "sluggish" this year. I think having a stroke at the age of 22 might do that to a person.

8/25 Roundup and News
Two bits of news in Korean language only today. First, LG has announced that Phil Dumatrait and Shinya Okamoto won't be brought back for next year. I'm not surprised Dumatrait won't be back, but Shinya could make sense in the KBO. For example, if Lotte chooses not to bring back Karim Garcia, I think Shinya could help with their woes in the late innings.
Also, Yoon Seok-min claims his drilling of Lotte's Cho Seong-hwan was a mistake, but it sounds like Cho is concussed.
Doosan 10, Hanhwa 6

Doosan starter Kelvin Jiminez was awful. Jiminez was lit up for five runs(four earned) during his 4 1/3 innings of work. Hanhwa starter Yoo Won-seong actually threw the ball pretty well and didn't deserve the ND that he was stuck with. Yoo tossed 5 1/3 innings(97 pitches, 63 strikes) of two-run ball. Yoo gave up eight hits and one walk while striking out four. Doosan rallied almost immediately after Yoo was pulled. The Hanhwa bullpen was batter for eight runs during the sixth and seventh innings. Doosan center fielder Lee Jong-wook and second baseman Goh Yeong-min both played key roles in the rallies and both finished the game with three RBIs. Hanhwa left fielder Choi Jin-haeng turned in a solid effort in a losing cause. Choi went 2-5 with a homer, three RBIs and one run scored.

SK starter Ken Kadokura tossed a quality start while third baseman Choi Jeong brought the pain for the SK offense. Kadokura threw seven innings(112 pitches, 73 strikes) of two-run baseball. Ken gave up only six hits and one walk while striking out nine. Choi finished the game 2-3 with a walk, a double, a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored. Choi scored SK's first run after he doubled in the second inning. He scored on an RBI single from Lee Ho-joon. Choi gave Kadokura a bunch of insurance runs when he capped a four-run rally with a two-run homer.
LG 8, KIA 7
W - Kim Kwang-su (4-5), L - Kim Hee-geol (3-5)
LG HR - None KIA HR - Kim Sang-hyeon (17)
KIA actually held a 7-4 lead heading into the eighth inning, but reliever Yoo Dong-hoon couldn't get anyone out. By the time the dust settled, LG was leading 8-7. Yoo started the eighth inning after Lopez threw 135 pitches during his seven innings of four-run baseball. Yoo started with a lead-off single, then a walk, then another single and, finally, a shower. Yoo was yanked with no outs and the bases loaded. KIA called on Lee Dong-hyeon to put out the fire. He promptly gave up a two-run double to second baseman Park Kyeong-su to make the score 7-6. A fielding error by shortstop Lee Hyeon-gon allowed LG to load the bases again. Center fielder Lee Dae-hyeong grounded into a fielder's choice that tied the game at seven. LG DH Park Yong-taek untied the game with an RBI sac fly to left. LG reliever Kim Kwang-su faced six batters and sent all six back to the bench as he threw perfect eighth and ninth innings for the W.

6/30 Roundup and News
The Korea Times posted an article about WBC team members suffering injuries. SK catcher Park Kyeong-wan will probably be missed the most. The veteran catcher is done for the year with a torn achilles tendon. Given his age and the severity of the tear, it could be career ending.

With runners on the corners, LG 1st baseman Park Jong-ho(.302/.421/.381) hit a fly ball to left that should have been an easy out. Park Jeong-joon either lost the ball in the lights or simply chose not to catch it. When the dust settled, it scored both runs and Park Jong-ho was standing up at 3rd base and awarded a triple. It was strange seeing Hong(3.65 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) and Jang(4.59 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) on the same field. Last year, Jang was the new, young starting pitcher that everyone was interested in. Jang has struggled since the WBC and Hong continues to rack up the W's. Both were solid, but not spectacular last night. Hong left the game after finishing the 5th inning with the score tied at 3. With two outs and the bases empty in the 6th, corner infielder Lee Won-seok(.233/.273/.360) hit a solo homer off of Jang to give Doosan a 4-3. The homer would be the last pitch Jang would throw. Doosan reliever Lim Tae-hoon(2.24 ERA, 0.83 WHIP) locked the game down for the next 3 2/3 innings. He allowed only 2 hits while striking out 3. Doosan reliever Lee Yong-chan(1.71 ERA, 1.05 WHIP) retired the final batter of the game and got the vulture save.

That's a joke that only the 3 Hanhwa fans who read this would get. SK 1st baseman Park Jeong-kwon(.278/.367/.474) hit a solo homer in the 2nd to put SK on the scoreboard. Later in the 2nd, 3rd baseman Choi Jeong(.244/.348/.412) scored on center fielder Kim Kang-min's(.288/.347/.516) RBI groundout. SK would tack on 2 more runs in the 3rd inning thanks to a Kim Jae-hyeon(.250/.394/.434) solo homer and Choi Jeong RBI single. SK starter Ken Kadokura(4.82 ERA, 1.47 WHIP) tossed 5 1/3 innings(85 pitches, 53 strikes) of 2-run ball. He allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and 1 hit batsman while striking out 4. Both bullpens threw a shutout the rest of the way. Hanhwa didn't score after the 5th inning and SK didn't score after the 3rd. 6/3 Roundup and News
Doosan Bears outfielder and lead off hitter, Lee Jong-wook, is done for the year after suffering a broken jaw and laceration on his neck in a collision with a teammate. It sounds like we're going to see more of rookie infielder Jeong Su-bin in the lead off role. Jeong is has a season line of .232/.349/.449. I think he'll do fine hitting in front of the Doosan thumpers.

Two straight days with 11-10 win for Hanhwa. If they do it again tonight I'm devoting this blog to a play-by-play of the entire game. It'll be a special post. Actually, I hate writing about slug fests. I'd much rather write an entire post about a no-hitter than an 11-10 slop fest. It's an easier post and I'm really, really lazy. In the time I spent bitching, I could have finished this recap.
Victor Diaz hit a 2-run bombs in the 1st 2nd innings, but for some reason the broadcast team named Lee Beom-ho MVP of the game. I guess the guy who spoke English(or Spanish) couldn't make it to the game, so the producers panicked and picked Lee. Lee hit a 2-run bomb in the 7th inning, but he finished the game 1-5. Whatever. After Diaz' homer in the 1st inning, the Twins answered back with a Lee Jin-yeong grand slam. It's important to note that Hanhwa walked Roberto Petagine to load the bases and get to Lee... IN THE FIRST INNING. This could become a trend as the season wears on. Leading 10-8 in the 9th inning, the Eagles tacked on an insurance run thanks to an RBI single from shortstop Song Kwang-min. Song's RBI proved to be the difference in the game because the Hanhwa bullpen tried awfully hard to let LG finish a comeback in the 9th inning. 1st baseman Choi Dong-su fouled out to end the game with the tying run on 3rd and the go-ahead run on 2nd. The stat line of the day goes to LG center fielder and lead off hitter Park Yong-taek. Park went 5-6 with a double and 4 runs scored.

W - Jeon Byeong-doo (2-2), L - Na Seung-hyeon (0-1), S - Lee Seung-ho (4)
The SK Wyverns have really found something in Jeon Byeong-doo. The Wyverns are the Busan native's third stop in the KBO. He spent 2 cups of coffee with the Doosan Bears and worked mainly out of the bullpen with the KIA Tigers. I'm surprised he's only 25 years old. Last night Jeon worked over the Giants like a seasoned pro. Jeon tossed 7 2/3 innings(114 pitches, 77 strikes) of 1-run baseball. He allowed only 6 hits while striking out 6. With the game tied at 1 and runners on the corners with 0 outs, SK shortstop Kim Yeon-hoon sprinted home after Jeong Geun-woo stole 2nd base to give SK a 2-1 advantage. SK reliever Lee Seung-ho tossed a scoreless 9th to earn the save.

W - Francisco Cruceta (4-2), L - Jang Won-sam (2-4)
I really can't believe how well Cruceta was throwing last night. His fastball had life on it that we really haven't seen this season and he was throwing his breaking stuff for strikes. Cruceta tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings(96 pitches, 57 strikes). He allowed 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 9. 10-2 makes this game sound close if the cruddy reliever named Kim Sang-su(not the 19 year old 2nd baseman that is stealing the hearts of Daegu) hadn't given up a 2-run homer to Heroes shortstop Kang Jeong-ho, the Heroes would have been shutout. The bottom of the Samsung batting order did the majority of the damage against the Heroes. The Lions' 6-9 hitters combined to go 6-12 with 2 walks, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Ageless wonder Yang Joon-hyeok went 3-4 with a double, 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. It seemed like he was on base all night.
