5/22 Roundup and News

That's just adorable.

SK 6, Woori 1

SK knocked around mediocre foreign starter, Jason Scobee(6.58 ERA, 2-4, 1.88 WHIP) and their pitching did their job. SK got only 5 innings(63 pitches, 40 strikes) from starter, Song Eun-beom(4.50 ERA, 4-2, 1.47 WHIP), but they were an effective 5 innings. He only allowed one run on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. Park Jae-hong(.393/.464/.631) and Na Ju-hwan(.308/.359/.385) drove in two runs apiece for SK. Woori was just awful at the plate, in the field and on the mound. They were simply outclassed by a superior SK squad last night.

Doosan 4, Hanhwa 3

I almost felt sorry for Hanhwa starter, Jeong Min-cheol(5.24 ERA, 3-5, 1.50 WHIP), last night. He labored through 7 2/3 innings(125 pitches, 73 strikes) while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and two walks. He added 3 strikeouts. He pitched in and out of trouble in most of the early innings and the game was tied heading into the 8th. Instead of going with a combustable bullpen, Hanhwa manager, Kim In-sik, stuck with a worn out Jeong. Doosan was able to scratch out a run in the 8th inning and Jeong got to hit the showers knowing he would get stuck with the L.

Chae Sang-byong(.188/.238/.301 in 133 AB's!) gets the game ball for Doosan. Chae was 1-3 with a homer, 2 RBI and one run scored. While Jeong Jae-hoon(5.56 ERA, 1.32 WHIP) notched his 9th save.

LG 6, Samsung 3

Roberto Petagine delivered hit first KBO hit last night and it was a big one. He struck in the 5th inning with the sacks full of Twinkies. He knocked in two. The RBI single was his only hit of the night, but it gave the Twinks the lead and they kept it.

LG's Chris Oxspring(4.29 ERA, 5-1, 1.66 WHIP) had the flutterball fluttering last night. He worked 6 2/3 innings(119 pitches, 70 strikes) allowing only 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. He struck out five Lions last night.

I refuse to mention the Lions, other than to say that it was a lame effort from a team that makes way too much money. Moving on...

Lotte 6, KIA 2

A 3-run bomb from Karim Garcia(.250/.326/.513, 11 HR, 32 RBI) was all the Giants needed last night. Garcia finished the night 3-5 with a homer, 3 RBI and one run scored. Lee Dae-ho(.349/.449/.586, 9 HR, 41 RBI) tacked on a 9th inning "Eff-you" homer just for good measure. They wanted to make sure KIA knew they lost.

Lotte starter, Song Sung-jun(4.67 ERA, 6-2, 1.56 WHIP) went the distance last night. He tossed all 9(119 pitches, 72 strikes) allowing 2 runs on 8 hits and two walks. He added 6 K's.

Saw the Eagles Debacle on Friday Night and Cruz was not in the lineup nor did I see him in the dugout,
