5/28 Roundup and News

I was surprised the KBO played at all yesterday. To say it was raining wouldn't be accurate. To say it was pissing all day in Daegu, would be.

A full stadium in Seoul. Fans were packed in to watch Doosan battle LG.

KIA vs. SK PPD

Lotte vs. Hanhwa PPD

Samsung 4, Woori 1

W - Kwon Hyeok(3-0), L - Song Shin-yeong(0-4), S - Oh Seung-hwan(14)

Woori starter, Jang Won-sam(3.39 ERA, 1.25 WHIP), had a no-hitter through 6, but he ran into trouble in the 7th. He surrendered a walk to Park Seok-min(.320/.426/.509), then Jae Tae-in(.367/.444/.600 in only 30 AB's) clubbed a double to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Kim Chang-hee(.333/.425/.377) drove in Park for the game's first run. Woori tied things up in the bottom of the 7th when Kang Gui-tae(.270/.301/.383) struck for a solo homer. Samsung hit right back with a three-run rally in the top of the 8th that was capped by a solo homer from Park Seok-min. Oh Seung-hwan(2.33 ERA 1.03 WHIP) made his first appearance in a week to notch his league leading 14th save. I was two days away from filing a missing persons report on Oh. I was starting to think he was hit by a bus or something.

LG, 7, Doosan 5
W - Bong Jung-gun(5-5), L - No Kyeong-eun(0-1), S - Woo Gyu-min(10)

LG and Doosan both enjoyed 3 run first innings. LG chased Doosan starter, Lee Hye-cheon(6.06 ERA, 1.37 WHIP) after just one inning, but LG's Dr. Bong(3.30 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) managed to gut it out for 6 1/3 innings. Bong did just enough to keep LG in the game and the LG offense did just enough to give the team a lead. Bong allowed all 5 Doosan runs on 6 hits and two walks, while striking out 7.

LG's Cho In-seong(.265/.320/.409) gets the game ball for going 2-4 with a triple and 3 RBI's. His 5th inning triple proved to be the difference in the ballgame. LG's Ahn Chi-yong(.380/.477/.620 in 90 AB's, 22 RBI in 27 games) also deserves a mention for going 2-4 with a homer, 2 RBI and 1 run scored.
