Whatever Happened to....

You may or may not remember this guy. Mr. Hong Seong-heun. He was the Doosan Bears catcher that lost his smile and complained about being asked to hit AND catch. Well, it sounds like Hong has found a way to hit that pesky baseball as well as catch it.

Hong was able to bounce back from an injury riddled 2007 season that saw his batting average plummet and his frustration rise. During the '08 campaign, Hong managed to hit .331 in 423 at bats. He slugged 8 homers, drove in 63 runs and scored 45 runs. This was his most productive season since 2002. During the '02 season, Hong hit 18 homers and drove in 70. Also, if I'm doing the math right, and I believe I am, Hong recorded his 1000th KBO hit this season. I'm just glad there was a happy ending to what was a completely ridiculous story.

Other news...

The Korea Times made it official. The Lions swept the Giants. This article is actually a fairly mediocre report for a game that was really exciting. The Joongang Daily offered up a much better article, complete with some postgame quotes.
