8/28 - 8/30 Weekend Roundup: Doosan vs. KIA

8/28 - KIA 13, Doosan 7
8/29 - KIA 8, Doosan 2
8/30 - KIA 6, Doosan 1

Wow. Get used to this Doosan! The Tigers are on the prowl! Mrowwwwrrr.

KIA 1st baseman Choi Hee-seop and 3rd baseman Kim Sang-hyeon basically but the Tigers on their shoulders and carried them to a W on Friday. Choi went 4-5 with a homer, 6(!) RBIs and 4 runs scored. While Kim finished 2-4 with a walk, 2 homers, 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Someone wants that MVP. It did make me smile that some of this came against Doosan golden boy, Hong Sang-sam. Hong was chased after the 3rd inning. Rick Guttormson earned the W, but he looked fairly human in the process. Rick was battered for 4 runs on 9 hits and 1 walk during his 6 innings of work. He did manage one lonely strikeout.

Kim Sang-hyeon continued his MVP push with another homer on Saturday. Kim slugged a 2-run bomb in the 1st inning. He would finish 2-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. KIA starting pitcher Aurelio Lopez needed 126 pitches(82 strikes) to go the distance. Senor Smoke threw 9 innings of 2-run baseball. He gave up 10 hits and 1 hit batsman while striking out 4.

KIA actually trailed for most of the game...until they struck for a 6-run rally in the top of the 8th to bury Doosan and sweep the series. Doosan brought Goh Chang Seong to pitch to Kim Sang-hyeon with runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Goh drilled Kim in the back to load the bases. At first glance, it would appear that this was an intentional drillin'. It was on a 2-2 pitch and it looked like the ball just got away from Goh on a sidearm toss, but it was an interesting spot to hit a guy who has 3 homeruns over the previous 2 days. Reliever Lee Jae-woo was brought in after the HBP and he promptly gave up a grand slam to pinch hitter Jang Seong-ho. KIA starter Yoon Seok-min earned the W with 7 solid innings(115 pitches, 71 strikes) of 1-run baseball. Yoon gave up 2 hits, 2 walks and 1 HBP while striking out 6. Lost in this game was a solid effort by Juan Cedeno. Big Juan threw 5 shutout innings(85 pitches, 46 strikes), but he gave up 3 hits and 5 walks with 2 K's.
