8/28 - 8/30 Weekend Roundup: Hanhwa vs. LG

8/28 - Hanhwa 8, LG 7
8/29 - LG 12, Hanhwa 8
8/30 - Hanhwa 8, LG 2

I have to write about this series? Really? The two worst teams in the KBO squaring off in the dog days of August does not motivate me to write. Tonight's KIA/Lotte game? Oh man. I can't WAIT to blog about that, but this....I'd rather spend a blog post eulogizing Jose Contreras and Jim Thome, but I know there is at least one Hanhwa fan that checks this blog when he remembers to. Here we go.

Friday's game was a scrum. Both teams took turns battering each other's pitching staffs and Hanhwa just happened to emerge the victor. This game was as hard on its viewers as it was on the ERAs of the pitchers in it. Brad Thomas earned the save. When I say "save," I mean he recorded 3 outs while giving up a base hit and walking 3 batters. Hanhwa 1st baseman Kim Tae-gyun and shortstop Song Kwang-min both recorded a pair of RBIs. LG DH Roberto Petagine went 1-3 with a walk, a homer, 2 RBIs and 1 run scored. The boxscore tells me that 3,204 people were in attendence. I demand a head count.

In typical crud series fashion, the Hanhwa bullpen blew a 4-run lead. During the 8th and 9th innings, LG scored 8 runs. This equaled Hanhwa's output for the entire game. LG DH Lee Jin-yeong was a one man wrecking crew. Lee finished the game 3-5 with a walk, 2 homers, 7(!) RBIs and 3 runs scored. Lee clubbed a grand slam in the 8th inning that gave LG its first lead of the game.

On Sunday, Hanhwa was out for revenge. They got it. The Hanhwa offense completely battered the Twins while Hanhwa ace(don't we need a new word for this? When you're the best pitcher on a terrible staff, shouldn't there be another word? I'm going to get on this as soon as I can) Ryu Hyeon-jin twirled a gem. Ryu tossed 7 2/3 innings(129 pitches, 86 strikes) of 2-run ball. Ryu gave up only 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 13. The Eagles offense was lead by 2nd baseman Lee Yeo-sang. Lee went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. Right fielder Kim Tae-won clubbed a solo homer. 3rd baseman Lee Beom-ho went 2-2 with a walk, a double, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Nothing remotely good happened for LG. I assure you.

Yes, I am the one Hanwha fan that checks this blog. This season has just been horrible and I fear that next season will be worse.

Thanks for the Hanwha updates.
