3/31 Roundup and News

Rain swept through the peninsula and it washed out three of the four scheduled games. Only the Tigers and Lions were able to get a wet nine innings started and finished in Gwangju.

KIA 4, Samsung 2
W - Son Yeong-min (1-0), L - Baek Jeong-hyeon(0-1) S - Yoo Dong-hoon (1)
KIA HR - Na Ji-wan(1) Samsung HR - None

This was a match up of troubled former aces. Former Samsung rotation anchor Bae Yong-su opposed former mediocre MLB player Seo Jae-wong. Both left the game after the 5th inning and both pitched reasonably well. Bae needed only 60 pitches(42 strikes) to record 15 outs. Bae allowed 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk with 2 K's. Seo tossed 96 pitches(62 strikes) during his 5 innings of work. He allowed 1 run on 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7. This game was left up to the bullpens and Samsung blinked first. With the score tied at 1 n the bottom of the 6th inning, Baek Jeong-hyeon gave up a single to outfielder Kim Won-seop. Baek was pulled for Ahn Ji-man. Ahn promptly served up a game un-tying homer to KIA DH Na Ji-wan. Na ended the game with a bizarre stat line. He finished 1-1 with 2 walks, a sac fly and 3 RBIs. That's productive. KIA added a 4th run in the 8th inning thanks to a 2-out RBI single off the bat of 3rd baseman/2009 MVP Kim Sang-hyeon. Samsung mounted a fake rally in the 9th inning off KIA closer Yoo Dong-hoon. Yoo gave up back-to-back doubles to center fielder Lee Yong-wook and outfielder Park Han-yi. Samsung brought the tying run to the plate, but Yoo settled down and recorded the final outs. With this W, the KIA Tigers are 1-3 on the season. Welcome to 2010!

Yay! We finally won! Don't look now but Kia might have a bullpen!
