4/10 Roundup and News

Doosan 3, LG 2
W - Cho Seung-su (1-0), L - Kim Ki-pyo (0-1), S - Lee Dong-chan (4)
Doosan HR - None LG HR - None

Doosan starter Lee Jae-woo was lifted from the game after only 4 batters. LG rallied for 2 runs in the first inning thanks to an RBI ground out from Lee Jin-yeong and an RBI single from catcher Cho In-seong. Doosan turned to two rookie pitchers to get eat up some innings. 207-cm Jang Min-ik tossed 2 2/3 innings(60 pitches, 29 strikes). He gave up 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks with 2 K's. Righty Cho Seung-su followed Jang with 2 2/3 shutout innings(55 pitches, 36 strikes). He gave up only 3 hits with 4 K's. Doosan rallied in the 6th inning. With runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, 1st baseman Lee Won-seok doubled down the left field line to drive in Doosan's first run. The next batter, right fielder Lim Jae-cheol singled through the middle to drive in both runners and give Doosan a 3-2 lead. The Doosan bullpen locked the game down and closer Lee Dong-chan tossed a scoreless 9th to earn the save.

SK 7, Nexen 2
W - Song Eun-beom (2-1), L - Kang Yoon-guh (1-1)
SK HR - Kim Kang-min (1) Nexen HR - None

Kang Yoon-guh will be a quality pitcher some day, but not yesterday. Kang is the kind of pitcher the Wyverns grill up and eat over soju on Friday nights. Kang gave up only 3 runs, but he was chased from the game after only 4 1/3 innings(80 pitches, 49 strikes). Kang allowed 4 hits and 5 walks while striking out 4. SK starter Song Eun-beom used the early lead to cruise for 6 2/3 shutout innings(105 pitches, 60 strikes). Song gave up 4 hits, 4 walks and 1 hit batsman with 4 K's. SK center fielder Kim Kang-min continued his hot start to the season. Kim went 2-4 with a homer, 3 RBIs and 1 run scored. Kim's 2-run homer in the 4th chased Kang from the game. SK 3rd baseman Choi Jeong went 2-5 with a double 3 RBIs and 1 run scored.

Samsung 3, KIA 1
W - Jeong Won-sam (1-0), L - Jeon Tae-hyeon (0-1), S - Jeong Hyeon-wook (1)
Samsung HR - Lee Yeong-wook (1), Park Han-yi (2) KIA HR - None

I don't care how long I had to wait for Jeong Won-sam in a Samsung uniform. I'm happy he's hear. Jeong threw 7 1/3 innings(114 pitches, 72 strikes) of 1-run baseball. He gave up only 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7. Samsung rallied for 3 runs in the first inning and let Jeong do the rest. Samsung center fielder Lee Yeong-wook and right fielder Park Han-yi lead off the game with back-to-back homers. Samsung added a third run on a sac fly from DH Yang Joon-hyeok. KIA starter Jeon Tae-hyeon recovered from the poor first inning and stuck around for 6 innings(109 pitches, 68 strikes). Jeon gave up 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.

Hanhwa 9, Lotte 2
W - Ryu Hyeon-jin (2-0), L - Lee Myeong-woo (0-1)
Hanhwa HR - Lee Do-hyeong (3) , Kim Tae-wan (4) , Choi Jin-haeng (2)

The K Monster was unleashed on Lotte! Hanhwa ace Ryu Hyeon-jin turned in a vintage performance. Ryu tossed 8 innings(115 pitches, 79 strikes) of 1-run baseball. Big Ryu only gave up only 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9. The only run Ryu allowed came on a solo homer from Lotte catcher Kang Min-ho. Hanhwa continued it's scoring barrage from the previous night. With the game tied at one in the 6th inning, the Hanhwa offense exploded for a 7-run rally. Hanhwa slugger Kim Tae-wan capped the rally with a 3-run homer. Hanhwa right fielder Jeong Hyeon-seok lead the team with a 3-4, 2-RBI, 1-run scored evening. The only good thing that happened for Lotte was that they recorded 27 outs and got to go home after the game.

I was at the Samsung game, and Jeong Won-sam looked really good. He seemed to have them off balance the whole game.
