4/28 Roundup and News

3 of the 4 games were washed out on the peninsula last night. When is summer starting? Heck, when is spring starting?

Lotte 6, Nexen 5
W - Kang Yeong-sik (1-0), L - Song Shin-yeong (1-3)
Lotte HR - Jo Seong-hwan (1) Nexen HR - Oh Yoon (1), Song Ji-man (3)

I think it would have taken a tsunami or a hurricane to get Lotte to cancel this game. The Giants needed a team like Nexen to come to Busan for a few games. The Giants are only 1 game in back of KIA for 5th place.

Lotte jumped all over Nexen starter Kim Sang-su in the first inning. Karim Garcia hit a bouncer back to the pitcher with the bases loaded. The only problem is that Kim threw the ball about three feet wide of catcher Yoo Seong-jeong. The ball bounced all the way to the backstop and Lotte scored two runs on the play. The Giants added another run in the 2nd inning on an RBI ground out from outfielde Kim Joo-chan. Nexen answered back with a run in the top of the 3rd when 2nd baseman Kwon Do-yeong singled back through the middle and scored 3rd baseman Kim Min-woo from 2nd. Lotte kept scoring in the bottom of the 4th. 2nd baseman Jo Seong-hwan started the inning with a solo homer to give Lotte a 4-1 lead. Then, with two outs and runners at the corners, 1st baseman Lee Dae-ho singled back through the middle to extend the lead to 5-1. Nexen answered back with a bases loaded sac fly from right fielder Yoo Han-joon to make the score 5-2. Nexen added two more runs in the 6th inning on a 2-run homer from DH Oh Yoon. Nexen would tie the game in the 8th inning on a solo blast from left fielder Song Ji-man. Lotte might be stuck in 6th place, but their pitching staff is leading the league in upset faces after giving up runs. Every time a Giants pitcher gives up a hit, he has to look back at it and make some kind of grimace, shake his head or just have a blank stare of disbelief. This would make a fantastic drinking game. It looked like we were headed for extras, but Lotte mounted a rally in the bottom of the 9th. With one out, Karim Garcia drew a walk and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch after 1st baseman Park Jong-yoon struck out. With two outs, catcher Kang Min-ho laced a base-hit off the wall in left to score Garcia and walk off the Nexen Heroes.
