7/6 Roundup and News

Doosan 7, KIA 2
W - Kelvin Jiminez (10-3), L - Aquilino Lopez (1-8)
Doosan HR - Kim Hyeon-su (13), Yoo Jae-wong (5) KIA HR - None

This loss extended the KIA losing streak to fifteen straight games. Doosan left fielder Kim Hyeon-su hit a three-run bomb in the first inning and backup outfielder Yoo Jae-wong delivered a two-run blast in the fourth inning to give Doosan an early lead. Kelvin Jiminez ate up some innings and did his best to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard. Jiminez tossed six innings(101 pitches, 62 strikes) of one-run baseball. Jiminez allowed four hits and two walks while striking out one.

Samsung 4, SK 0
W - Cha Woo-chan (3-1), L - Gary Glover (6-6)
Samsung HR - Cho Yeong-hoon (5), Oh Jeong-bok (7) SK HR - None

I've never seen Samsung starter Cha Woo-chan throw the ball better than he did last night. Cha's pitches had a movement that I haven't seen before. Cha tossed seven scoreless innings(94 pitches, 66 strikes) against one of the more potent offenses in the KBO. Cha gave up only four hits and one hit batsman while striking out eight. Samsung got an early solo homer from first baseman Cho Yeong-hoon and added to the lead in the fifth inning with a two-run single from third baseman Park Seok-min. Outfielder Oh Jeong-bok chipped in another solo homer in the sixth to give Samsung a little more insurance.

LG 6, Hanhwa 2
W - Bong Jung-geun (8-4), L - Yang Seung-jin (1-4), S - Shinya Okamoto (13)
LG HR - None Hanhwa HR - Shin Kyeong-hyeon (5)

LG got a quality start from ace Bong Jung-geun and got just enough offense to earn a W against the Eagles. Bong tossed six innings(127 pitches, 79 strikes) of two-run baseball. Bong gave up four hits and four walks while striking out six. LG lead off hitter/DH Lee Yong-taek proved to be a real catalyst for the Zombies last night. Lee went 3-5 with a pair of runs scored. One of the Lee Byeong-gyus drove in a pair of runs. Mr. Handsome, catcher Cho In-seong, went 2-4 with a double, one run scored and an RBI.

Lotte 6, Nexen 4
W - Lim Kyeong-wan (2-3), L - Son Shin-yeong (3-5)
Lotte HR - Kang Min-ho (14), Son Ah-seop (6), Jeon Joon-woo (7) Nexen HR - None

Lotte was down 4-3 in the eighth inning when DH Hong Seong-heun singled to center with a runner on second. The runner was able to score and tie the game, but Hong was thrown out advancing to second. The game was still tied in the bottom of the ninth thanks to Lotte reliever Lim Kyeon-wan pitching through some rough fielding. Lim managed to get a couple ground balls that the Lotte infield managed to convert into outs and get out of the inning unscathed. In the bottom of the inning, Lotte center fielder Jeon Joon-woo blasted a two-run bomb to center to walk off the Heroes. I'm sure it felt good for the Giants to walk someone else off for a change. Jeon's teammates chased him up the first baseline to douse him with water.
