Doosan Wins in Wet Weather, Evens Series

Doosan 4, Samsung 3
W - Kelvin Jiminez, L - Bae Yeong-su, S - Lim Tae-hoon
Doosan HR - None Samsung HR - None
The series is tied, 1-1

This was a hard game to watch. You couldn't have paid me to sit in the rain and cold in Daegu's Citizens' Stadium. The game started fifteen minutes late and was stopped twice because the field became too sloppy to play on. The rain persisted through almost the entire evening.

Doosan took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when center fielder Jeong Su-bin hit a sac fly with runners on second and third and one out. The Bears increased their lead in the sixth inning. DH Kim Dong-ju singled to left with the bases loaded to plate a pair of runs. With the bases re-loaded and still no outs, right fielder Lee Seong-yeol hit a shallow fly to center field that was just deep enough to score another run. Lee's sacrifice pushed the lead to 4-0.

Samsung finally pushed across a run in the eighth inning. Outfielder Kang Bong-gyu singled to lead off the inning. Kang advanced to second on a ground out by pinch hitter Shin Myeong-cheol. Kang would score on a single from short stop Kim Sang-su.

Samsung started another rally in the bottom of the ninth. Doosan turned to Lee Hyeon-seung to record the save. Lee gave up a walk to pinch hitter Jin Kab-yong. Jin was promptly lifted for a pinch runner. Lee got left fielder Choi Hyeong-woo to ground out to second, but second baseman Goh Yeong-min couldn't find the ball in his glove. Goh's hesitation cost him the double play, so he went to first. The throw from Goh was wide and pulled first baseman Kim Hyeon-su off the base. Both runners were safe. First baseman Chae Tae-in struck out swinging for the first out of the inning. Second baseman Park Jin-man poked a single through the right side to score the runner from second. Lee was lifted for Lim Tae-hoon. Lim got Kang Bong-gyu to hit a grounder to short. Shortstop Son Si-heon came home with the throw. The throw bounced away from catcher Yang Eui-ji and the Doosan lead was cut to 4-3. Samsung had runners on second and third and only one out. Lim Tae-hoon struck out both catcher Chae Sang-byeong and short stop Kim Sang-su to end the game and earn the save.

Kelvin Jiminez threw the ball well, but he wasn't exactly missing a lot of bats. Jiminez threw seven shutout innings(110 pitches, 70 strikes) Kelvin gave up only five hits and one walk while striking out two. The weather really helped Kelvin keep the ball in the ballpark. It felt like Samsung hit a dozen balls to the warning track that appeared to die as they went deep into the outfield.

The series continues on Sunday at 2 PM Seoul time in Seoul's Jamsil Stadium. Doosan will send Kim Sun-woo against Samsung's Jang Won-sam. Kim was last seen beating the Giants in game five. Kim threw five innings of three-run baseball. He gave up seven hits and one walk while striking out two. Jang Won-sam was traded from the Nexen Heroes to the Lions this past offseason. Jang went 13-5 with a 3.46 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 151 innings. Jang struck out 115 and walked 49.
