Ben Jukich looked as good as advertised last night against the Lotte Giants. Jukich threw seven shutout innings(101 pitches, 63 strikes). Ben gave up only five hits and one walk while striking out four.
Lotte has had a rough week. The Giants have lost three of four and the other game was the first tie of the KBO season. 0-3-1 is a rotten, rotten record. Starter Jang Won-joon was mediocre and the Lotte offense couldn't solve Ben Jukich.
LG catcher and the KBO's handsomest man, Cho In-seong, went 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. DH Park Yong-taek went 3-5 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored.
SK 2, Nexen 1
W - Lee Seung-ho (1-1), L - Geum Min-cheol (1-1), S - Jeong Byeong-doo (3)
SK HR - None Nexen HR - None
SK scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning when second baseman Jeong Geun-woo walked and scored when the Nexen defense made an error on a Lim Hoon bunt attempt. Lim's bunt was fielded cleanly by Nexen catcher Kang Gui-tae, but the throw went into right field. Lim scored on a bloop single SK catcher Jeong Sang-ho.
Nexen picked up a run in the eighth inning on an RBI single from first baseman Kang Byeong-sik, but that was all the offense the Heroes could muster against the SK pitching staff.
SK starter Ohm Jeong-wook was removed from the game in the second inning due to performance issues. Ohm record four outs and allowed five baserunners. SK reliever Lee Seung-ho threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings and picked up the W. SK closer Jeon Byeong-doo threw two innings, but gave up the only Nexen run while earning the save.
Samsung 2, Doosan 1
W - Ken Kadokura (1-1), L - Lee Hye-cheon (0-2), S - Oh Seung-hwan (3)
Samsung HR - Bae Yeong-seop (1) Doosan HR - None
Samsung starter Ken Kadokura looked solid against a tough Doosan lineup. Kadokura threw six innings(98 pitches, 61 strikes) of one-run baseball. Kadokura gave up four hits and two walks while striking out four.
Doosan took an early one run lead when Son Si-hyeon hit an RBI single in the third inning, but the Lions answered back in the bottom of the third with a solo homer from left fielder Bae Yeong-seop.
Samsung added another run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from DH Ryan Garko to take a 2-1 lead.
The Samsung bullpen shut the door on the Doosan offense and managed to throw three scoreless innings. Samsung closer Oh Seung-hwan gave up a hit, but recorded a scoreless ninth for the save.
KIA 9, Hanhwa 4
W - Yoo Dong-hoon (1-1), L - Oneli Perez (0-1)
KIA HR - Kim Sang-hoon (1) Hanhwa HR - Jeong Won-seok (1)
Hanhwa held a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth and the Eagles called on relief pitcher Oneli Perez to shut the door. Perez gave up a lead off single to KIA third baseman Lee Beom-ho and then a single to first baseman Choi Hee-seop to put runners on the corners with no outs. KIA right fielder Shin Jong-gil singled to tie the game at four.
Lee Jong-beom was called on to bunt the runners on first and second over to scoring position. He succeeded, but Hanhwa recorded the first out of the inning. Left fielder Kim Sang-hyeon was intentionally walked to load the bases for catcher Kim Sang-hoon. Kim singled to center to drive in a pair and give KIA a 6-4 lead. The next batter, second baseman Ahn Chi-hong, doubled to push the lead to 7-4. Oneli was finally removed, but KIA tacked on two more insurance runs to make the lead 9-4
KIA catcher Kim Sang-hoon finished the day 3-4 with a homer, five RBIs and two runs scored.

Lotte stink this year! Seriously low on confidence given this run. The only saving grace of baseball is that you have to get up and do it all again the next day. There seems to be that gap creeping in already whereby 4 or 5 teams will really stand out from the other 3 or 4. There has to be a way to deal with this. I can't decide if more teams will improve things or not. More money for quality too, maybe.
