4/20 Roundup and News

Doosan 7, Nexen 3

Doosan starter Kim Seong-bae was solid and the Doosan offense knocked around the Nexen pitching staff.

Kim threw six innings(95 pitches, 64 strikes) of one-run baseball. Kim gave up only four hits and two walks while striking out five.

Doosan first baseman Oh Jae-won went 3-5 with three runs scored and a stolen base. Doosan DH Kim Dong-ju hit a three-run bomb in the seventh to effectively ice the game. Kim finished 1-2 with a HBP, four RBIs and one run scored.

Doosan's new human victory cigar, pitcher Jang Min-ik made things interesting in the ninth inning by giving up a bunch of hits, but closer Lim Tae-hoon recorded the final out to earn the save.

LG 9, SK 4
W - Park Hyeon-joon (3-1), L - Kim Kwang-hyeon (0-2)
LG HR - Oh Ji-hwan (1) SK HR - Jeong Geun-woo (4)

SK ace Kim Kwang-hyeon was really mediocre again. This time Kim was knocked around to the tune of six runs(three earned) on seven hits and four walks over three innings of work. Kim did manage to strike out three.

KIA jumped out to an early lead, received some competent pitching and tacked on a few late insurance runs to seal the victory.

DH Park Yong-taek lead the LG offense by goin 2-5 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two steals. First baseman Lee Taek-geun went 2-4 with a walk, two runs scored and three stolen bases.

Hanhwa 4, Lotte 2
W - Ryu Hyeon-jin (1-3), L - Lee Jae-gon (0-3), S - Oneli Perez (2)
Hanhwa HR - None Lotte HR - None

What happens when a struggling ace meets a struggling offense? Well, in this case the struggling ace won. Ryu Hyeon-jin threw eight innings(122 pitches, 77 strikes) of two-run baseball. Ryu gave up six hits and three walks while striking out six. It wasn't a vintage Ryu performance, but it was a big improvement over his previous efforts.

Lotte starter Lee Jae-gon was awful again. Lee was chased in the second inning after giving up all four Hanhwa runs. Reliever Heo Joon-hyeok threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings(84 pitches, 56 strikes) of relief work to keep the game close.

Hanhwa right fielder/lead off hitter Kang Dong-woo lead the Hanhwa offense by going 2-4 with a double and two runs scored.

KIA 3, Samsung 0
W - Yoon Seok-min (1-1), L - Yoon Seong-hwan (1-1), S - Seo Jae-wong (2)
KIA HR - Choi Hee-seop (2) Samsung HR - None

KIA ace Yoon Seok-min overpowered the Samsung offense for six innings(89 pitches, 64 strikes) of shutout baseball. Yoon gave up only seven hits and struck out seven.

The only Lion to really get to KIA pitching last night was second baseman Shin Myeon-cheol. Shin went 4-4 with four singles.

KIA first baseman Choi Hee-seop hit a two-run bomb in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie and KIA cruised to an easy W.

Newly annointed closer Seo Jae-wong threw a scoreless ninth for the save.
