4/24 Roundup and News

KIA 8, LG 2
W - Yang Hyeon-jong (1-2), L - Radhames Liz (1-3)
KIA HR - Lee Beom-ho (4) LG HR - None

KIA starter Yang Hyeon-jong managed to not give up lots of runs in a short period of time and KIA was able to get a win. Yang threw 5 1/3 innings(100 pitches, 60 strikes) and gave up "only" two runs. Yang allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out three.

The KIA offense knocked around Radhames Liz and then did much worse to the LG bullpen. Third baseman Lee Beom-ho hit a three-run bomb and shortstop Kim Seon-bin went 2-4 with a walk, a triple three RBIs and a run scored.

LG first baseman Lee Taek-geun went 4-4 with a double and an RBI.

Nexen 6, Samsung 5
W - Kim Seong-hyeon (1-2), L - Ahn Ji-man (2-2), S - Song Shin-yeong (4)
Nexen HR - None Samsung HR - None

Samsung jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Nexen battered Samsung starter Ahn Ji-man for all six runs.

The Nexen bullpen tried really, really hard to blow the game, but the Samsung offense was too quick to help them get out of jams. It seemed like Samsung constantly had runners on base in the late innings, but all they could muster was one lonely run and a few fake rallies.

Nexen took a 3-2 lead in the third inning when they rallied for three runs. Corey Aldridge drove in two on an RBI single.

Nexen picked up three more runs in the fifth inning on an assembly line rally that saw center fielder Yoo Han-joon and Corey Aldridge hit RBI singles.

Doosan 9, Hanhwa 5
W - Lee Hye-chan (1-2), L - Ma Il-yeong (0-1)
Doosan HR - Choi Joon-seok (3) Hanhwa HR - Choi Jin-haeng (3)

Doosan actually trailed 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning, but a six-run rally turned a deficit into a surplus. Doosan first baseman Choi Joon-seok capped the rally with a three-run homer. Choi finished the day 2-4 with a walk, three RBIs and one run scored.

Doosan, erm, pitcher Hong Sang-sam reminded everyone why he served as Doosan's human victory cigar last year. Hong was given a start and didn't do much with it. Hong allowed four runs on four hits and a walk during three+ sloppy innings of work. Hanhwa slugger Choi Jin-haeng tagged him for a three-run homer in the fourth inning.

SK 9, Lotte 7
W - Gary Glover (1-0), L - Bryan Corey (1-2)
SK HR - Park Jae-sang (1) Lotte HR - Lee Dae-ho 2(4)

SK was buoyed by an amazing day at the plate by left fielder Park Jae-sang. Park went 3-4 with a homer, five RBIs and two runs scored. Park hit an off-the-wall double in the fifth inning with the bases loaded to drive in three runs. He later added a solo homer in the top of the ninth to give the Wyverns some insuance.

SK shortstop Choi Yoon-seok went 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Bryan Corey struggled on the mound for the first time this season. Corey threw five innings(84 pitches, 51 strikes), but was tagged for five runs(four earned). Corey gave up six hits and two walks while striking out one.

Gary Glover was solid in victory for the Wyverns. The Glove tossed five innings(104 pitches, 67 strikes) and gave up three runs(two earned). Glover allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out seven.

Lee Dae-ho hit balls that found the bleachers twice on Sunday. Lee finished 2-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
