5/31 Roundup and News

Karim Garcia will in fact be making a return to the KBO with the Hanhwa Eagles. Julio DePaula has been sent to the minor leagues and looks like the guy who will gehttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gift the plane ticket of shame once Karim gets back to Korea.

Samsung 3, Hanhwa 2
W - Ken Kadokura (3-3), L - Kim Hyeok-min (2-3), S - Oh Seung-hwan (15)
Samsung HR - Choi Hyeong-woo (12) Hanhwa HR - None

Samsung rallied for three runs in the fourth inning thanks to a solo homer from DH Choi Hyeong-woo and a two-run single from shortstop Kim Sang-su.

Samsung starter Ken Kadokura tossed 5 2/3 innings(88 pitches, 55 strikes) of one-run baseball(none earned). Kadokura gave up five hits and one walk while striking out two.

The Samsung defense allowed Hanhwa to cut the lead to 3-2 thanks to some shoddy D from second baseman Shin Myeong-cheol. Errors in both the sixth and seven innings lead to Hanhwa runs.

Thankfully, the Samsung bullpen was able to shut the door. Samsung closer Oh Seung-hwan threw a perfect ninth inning for the save.

Doosan 5, SK 1
W - Seo Dong-hwan (1-0), L - Jim Magrane (2-3)
Doosan HR - None SK HR - Park Jin-man (2)

Doosan pieced together enough of an offense to help starter Seo Dong-hwan and the Doosan bullpen get a victory.

Doosan center fielder Lee Jong-wook was a catalyst for the Doosan offense. Lee went 3-4 with a walk, three runs scored and an RBI. If felt like Lee had a key hit in every Doosan rally.

Doosan starter Seo Dong-hwan threw well enough for a guy making his first KBO start since finishing his miliary service. Seo threw five innings(70 pitches, 43 strikes) of one-run ball. Seo allowed three hits and two walks while striking out three. His only real mistake occurred when SK shortstop Park Jin-man tagged him for a solo homer.

Four Doosan relievers combined to throw four innings of no-hit baseball and nail down the W for the Bears.

Lotte 8, Nexen 7
W - Brian Corey (3-2), L - Lee Jeong-hoon (2-1)
Lotte HR - Lee Dae-ho (13), Kang Min-ho (6) Nexen HR - Kim Min-seong (1)

Lotte actually held a 7-2 lead in this one, but some really, really poor relief work from the Lotte bullpen allowed Nexen to tie the game at seven.

The game was still tied in the bottom of the ninth when Lotte put runners on first and second with no outs. Nexen called on closer Son Seung-rok to get them out of the jam. Lotte catcher Kang Min-ho put a base hit over the head of Nexen right fielder Oh Yoon to plate the winning run and walk off the Heroes.

Kang finished the game 3-5 with a a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs. First baseman Lee Dae-ho went 2-3 with two walks, a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Nexen DH Song Ji-man lead the Heroes' offense by going 3-3 with a walk, a double, two RBIS and a run scored. Center fielder Yoo Han-joon went 5-5(all five singles) with a run scored and a RBI.

LG 4, KIA 1
W - Radhames Liz (4-5), L - Yang Hyeon-jong (5-4), S - Lim Chan-gyu (2)
LG HR - Lee Byeong-gyu (9), Yoon Sang-gyun (1) KIA HR - None

LG rallied for three runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run blast from center fielder(seriously, center?) Lee Byeong-gyu and a solo blast from DH Yoon Sang-gyun. Lee finished the game 3-4 a double, a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs

LG starter Radhames Liz threw well with the early lead. Liz tossed 7 1/3 innings(101 pitches, 62 strikes) of one-run baseball. Liz allowed four hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out five.
