9/14 Roundup and News

Hanhwa 18, KIA 7
W - Ahn Seung-min (8-7), L - Aquilino Lopez (11-8)

KIA HR - Kim Sang-hyeon (13), Na Ji-wan (16)

KIA starter Aquilino Lopez was blasted to the tune of seven runs on six hits, one walk and one hit batsman during 2 1/3 innings of work. Then things took a turn for the worse for the fourth place KIA Tigers.

Hanhwa second baseman Han Seong-hoon went 4-6 with a double, two triples, five RBIs and three runs scored. Left fielder Choi Jin-haeng went 2-6 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored. DH Karim Garcia was 3-5 with a double, a homer, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Hanhwa starter Ahn Seung-min earned his eighth W while giving up six runs in five innings of work. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Samsung 8, Lotte 5
W - Justin Germano (4-1), L -Goh Won-joon (8-7), S - Oh Seung-hwan (42)

Samsung tagged Lotte starter Goh Won-joon for six runs in the first inning and basically cruised to a W. Third baseman Park Seok-min lead the Lions' offense by going 2-4 with a walk, a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Samsung starter Justin Germano tossed seven innings(81 pitches, 59 strikes) of three-run ball. Germano gave up six hits and struck out five.

Samsung closer Oh Seung-hwan gave up a base hit and struck a batter out during a scoreless ninth for his league leading 42nd save.

Lotte right fielder Son Ah-seop went 3-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

LG 12, Doosan 7
W - Ben Jukich (9-6), L - Kim Seung-hui (2-2)
LG HR - Lee Byeong-gyu (3)
Doosan HR - Choi Joon-seok (15)

The Twins did all their damage in two innings. LG rallied for four in the first inning and then put up a snowman in the sixth to turn a 4-1 game into a 12-1 laffer. Doosan rallied for five in the top of the seventh, but the game was basically over after the snowman made an appearance.

LG starter Ben Jukich tossed 6 2/3 innings(106 pitches, 67 strikes) of one-run baseball before the shallow end of the LG bullpen gave up a couple runs. Jukich gave up only six hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out two.

This was a day for LG's pair of Lee Byeong-gyus. Lee the center fielder went 3-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Lee the DH went 2-4 with a homer, three RBIs and a run scored.

Doosan first baseman Choi Joon-seok lead the Bears by going 2-4 with a walk, a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored.

SK 8, Nexen 7
W - Lee Jae-yeong (1-0), L - Lee Jeong-hoon (3-3), S - Eom Jeong-wook (3)
SK HR - None
Nexen HR - Kim Min-seong (3), Park Byeong-ho (10), Corey Aldridge (18)

Nexen took a 7-6 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but SK first baseman Park Jeong-kwon tied the game with an off-the-wall triple. SK took an 8-7 lead when Park scored on a double from pinch hitter Lee Ho-joon.

The SK bullpen managed to keep Nexen off the score board and help the Wyverns to a much needed W.

SK DH Ahn Chi-yong went 2-2 with two walks, a double, a stolen base and three runs scored. Nexen second baseman Kim Min-seong went 2-4 with a homer, a steal, two runs scored and two RBIs.
