9/18 Roundup and News

SK 13, Hanhwa 5

The Wyverns offense jumped all over Hanhwa starter Song Chang-sik and reliever Jang Min-je in the early innings and cruised to a W.

SK first baseman Lee Ho-joon lead the Wyverns offense by going 2-4 with a a homer, a walk, six RBIs and one run scored. Lee blasted a grand slam during a six-run rally in the second inning.

SK DH Ahn Chi-yong chipped in with a 2-3, one homer, two walk, two RBI, two run effort.

Hanhwa DH Karim Garcia went 2-3 with a walk and a two-run homer.

KIA 7, LG 3 (11)
W - Son Yeong-min (8-6), L - Lim Chan-gyu (9-4)
KIA HR - Lee Hyeon-gon (1), Cha Il-mok (7)
LG HR - None

LG scored three runs in the first inning and could manage much for the next ten innings.

KIA picked up a run in the third inning and tied the game in the fourth on a two-run bomb from third baseman Lee Hyeon-gon.

KIA watched LG reliever Lim Chan-gyu walk the bases loaded in the 11th inning and catcher Cha Il-mok delivered a walk-off grand slam to end it.

Lotte 6, Doosan 3
W - Jang Won-sam (13-6), L - Yang Hyeon (0-1), S - Kim Sa-yul (17)
Lotte HR - Son Ah-seop (15), Jeon Joon-woo (11), Hwang Jae-gyun (11)
Doosan HR - None

Lotte starter Jang Won-joon stepped up and gave the Giants solid innings that they desperately needed. Jang tossed six innings(114 pitches, 65 strikes) of one-run baseball. Jang allowed only three hits and five walks while striking out six.

Doosan is still sending out their first team in the field, but they used mainly younger players and journeymen on the mound and it showed as Lotte tagged them for three homers.

Lotte right fielder Son Ah-seop went 3-5 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs. Third baseman Hwang Jae-gyun went 2-3 with a homer, a double, two RBIs, one run scored and a stolen base.

Nexen 4, Samsung 2
W - Moon Seong-hyeon (5-11), L - Jang Won-sam (6-7), S - Son Seung-rak (15)
Nexen HR - None
Samsung HR - Choi Hyeong-woo (29)

Nexen starter Moon Seong-hyeon shut the Lions down completely during his six innings(108 pitches, 63 strikes) of work. Moon didn't give up any runs and was only tagged for four hits and two walks. He struck out six Lions during his start.

Samsung Jang Won-sam struck out 11, but was tagged for four runs during his seven innings(112 pitches, 74 strikes) of work. Jang allowed six hits and one walk.

Nexen did most of the damage during a three-run rally in the seventh inning. The scoring started with a RBI double from backup first baseman Oh Jae-il and continued when Samsung shortstop Kim Sang-su made an absolutely terrible throw on a plate at the plate. The throw was a solid ten feet wide of home. Things got worse from there as Nexen sprayed a couple line drives into the outfield.

All of Samsung's offense came on a two-run homer from slugger Choi Hyeong-woo in the eighth inning.
