6/12 - 6/14 Weekend Roundup: LG vs SK

I'm going to try something a little different with the Weekend Roundup. We'll see how it goes this week. If it works out, I'll probably stick to doing a post for each series instead of a massive post. It makes the blog easier to read, easier to link to and ratchets up my post count. I don't see a downside...

6/12 - SK 7, LG 6
6/13 - LG 3, SK 2
6/14 - LG 5, SK 3

SK watched a 5-1 lead turn into a 6-5 deficit thanks to a 5-run LG rally in the 6th inning. Lee Jin-yeong, Park Kyeong-su and Cho In-seong all delivered RBI doubles during the rally. SK answered back in the 7th inning with a mammoth solo homer from center fielder Kim Kang-min. SK would take the lead in the 9th inning on an RBI sac fly from 2nd baseman Jeong Geun-woo. The fly ball was hit to shallow left, but the relay throw from LG shortstop Kwon Yong-kwan was offline. SK pitcher Jeon Byeong-doo worked out of the bullpen on Friday. Jeon recorded the final 10 outs and kept the Twins off the scoreboard during the late innings. He allowed 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2 during his 3 1/3 innings of work.

SK's resident lard butt, Chae Byeong-yeong, returned to the starting rotation on Saturday and looked as good as he's looked all season. Chae tossed 5 innings(73 pitches, 42 strikes) of shutout baseball. Chae allowed 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out 0. I can't believe LG couldn't break through against him. SK took a 2-0 lead into the 8th inning, but the SK bullpen went into self destruct mode. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, SK turned to reliever Jeong Dae-hyeon to kill the rally before it lived. The first batter he faced, 1st baseman Choi Dong-su, hit a 2 RBI double to tie the game at 2. SK intentionally walked Lee Jong-yeol to get to catcher Cho In-seong. The strategy almost worked. SK was able to get Cho out, but LG shortstop Kwon Yong-kwan delivered a 2 out, RBI single to give LG a 3-2 advantage. LG reliever Lee Jae-yeong tossed the 8th and 9th innings. Lee was able to keep the Wyverns off the scoreboard and earn the W.

The Wyverns and the Twins were tied up at 3 in the 5th inning. LG took the lead on a wild pitch. LG lead off hitter Lee Yong-taek single with one out. He advanced to 3rd when a pick off throw went into right field. SK reliever Goh Hyo-joon threw a 58 foot breaking ball that got away from catcher Park Kyeong-wan. Roberto Petagine blasted a solo homer in the 8th to give LG a little insurance. LG starting pitcher Shim Su-chang enjoyed a solid afternoon. Shim tossed 7 1/3 innings(102 pitches, 61 strikes) of 3-run ball. Shim allowed 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. All 3 runs came on 2 homers. Park Kyeong-wan hit a solo bomb in the 2nd and 3rd baseman Na Joo-hwan hit a 2-run bomb in the 5th.
