7/17 - 7/19 Weekend Roundup: Samsung vs. LG

7/17 - PPD
7/18 - Samsung 8, LG 3
7/19 - Samsung 10, LG 8

The biggest news to come out of this series wasn't the result on the field, but by Samsung manager Sun Dong-yeol's contract extension. I'm thrilled Sun will be staying in Daegu. He's one of the better KBO managers and has earned his new contract.

Everything went right on Saturday for the Lions. 4 different Lions enjoyed 2 RBI days and starting pitcher Yoon Seong-hwan posted a quality start. Right fielder Kang Bong-gyu, DH Yang Joon-hyeok, 1st baseman Choi Tae-in and warm body Lee Yeong-wook all drove in 2 runs apiece. Yoon threw 6 innings of 2-run baseball. Yoon gave up only 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6.

After both starting pitchers posted mediocre results, Sunday's game was left up to the bullpens to decide. The Lions bullpen was bad, but the Twins bullpen was legitimately awful. After trading leads back and forth, both teams settled on an 8-8 tie. Faced with the possibility of extra innings, Samsung mounted a rally in the bottom of the 8th. Shin Myeong-cheol and Chae Tae-in both walked to start the inning. Backup catcher Hyeon Jae-yoon bunted the runners into scoring position. Backup outfielder Lee Yeong-wook was intentionally walked to load the bases. 3rd baseman Cho Dong-chan hit a bouncer to 2nd that LG 2nd baseman Park Kyeong-su couldn't find the handle on. Cho was safe at first and the go ahead run was able to score. With two outs and the bases still loaded, Kang Bong-gyu drew a walk to add another run to Samsung's total and make the score 10-8. Samsung reliever Jeong Hyeon-wook stayed in the game for the 9th inning and was able to record the save.
