Reaction to 12 Second Rule/Larger Strike Zone

Naver Sports posted up an article about reaction around the league to the 12 second pitch rule and the larger strike zone 2 games into the season.

Regarding the 12 second rule..

Some like and some don't. But generally players seem to be feeling some "pressure."

Lee Dong-hyun of LG is quoted as saying: "get a sign (from the catcher), nod your head a bit, and it seems time's up." Hanhwa's Yoo Won-sang goes "you're always thinking about the 12 seconds when the batter steps into the plate." And SK's Lee Seung-ho feels "pressure" with the new rule. All three are pitchers.

Heroes pitcher Song Shin-yong has no problem: "doesn't bother me at all." Samsung's Sunday starter Brandon Knight adds "I pitch fast anyway, makes no difference to me."

Regarding the larger (horizontally) strike zone..

Report reports that it's seemingly too early for any reaction to this new strike zone. But the problems seem to arise from the differences in umpires' perception of the new strike zone.

Samsung's Park Suk-min goes "no problem with it so far, but it's too early to tell." Hong Seong-heung of Lotte declares "yeah it's definitely larger, but it's not that hard to hit." Kia's Ahn Chi-hong stated "it's (the strike zone) larger in the sides, but the umps are going to call it, so you have to keep it in mind."

Hong's teammate Kang Min-ho doesn't like the new strike zone: "it's difficult, sometimes it's a strike, sometimes it's not a strike.." And SK's Park Jeong-kwon feels some "pressure" at bat after the second strike. (You don't say)

Kim Hyun-soo, currently working with an 800+ batting average, adds "got used to it during the pre-season, just hit the ball before the second strike." Hanhwa's Lee Yong-woo, Hanhwa's Kang Gui-tae, and Lee Seung-yong agrees that you got to move the ball quickly.

SK Catcher Park Kyong-wan declares "the strike zone's larger, but we're not sure who benefits, the pitcher or the batter." He goes on to say that each at bat is unique and nobody knows who will be more comfortable or not with the new strike zone. And Hanhwa pitcher Yoo Won-sang agrees.

LG catcher Kim Tae-gun adds that sliders become harder to hit, and SK pitcher Lee Seung-ho agrees that the slider becomes a pretty important pitch with the new strike zone.

Brandon Knight adds: "it's not the larger strike zone that's the problem, remembering where it is is the problem."
