7/18 Roundup and News

Doosan 3, Lotte 1
W - Kelvin Jiminez (12-3), L - Song Seung-joon (8-6)
Doosan HR - Lee Won-seok (8) Lotte HR - None

We had dueling complete games in this game, but Kelvin Jiminez was able to keep the powerful Lotte offense off the scoreboard for most of the game. Lotte starter Song Seung-joon wasn't as lucky against the patient Doosan Bears. Jiminez threw nine innings(104 pitches, 63 strikes) of one-run ball. Jiminez gave up four hits, two walks and one hit batsman. Lotte second baseman Cho Seong-hwan was the only Giant to really get to Jiminez. Cho went 2-4 with an RBI. Song threw eight innings(112 pitches, 65 strikes) of three-run baseball. Song gave up four hits and four walks while striking out three. Doosan second baseman Goh Yeong-min tied the game at one in the third inning with an RBI single. Doosan third baseman Lee Won-seok gave Doosan a lead with a two-run homer in the fifth inning and the Bears were able to hang on for the W.

Hanhwa 7, Nexen 3
W - Julio DePaula (4-9), L - Kim Seong-tae (1-1), S - Yang Hoon (7)
Hanhwa HR - Choi Jin-haeng (24) Nexen HR - Lee Sung-yong (2), Kang Jeong-ho (10)

Hanhwa starter Julio DePaula not only threw a quality start, but he got enough run support to win. Simply Amazing. DePaula tossed 7 1/3 innings(90 pitches, 55 strikes) of two-run baseball. Julio gave up six hits and three walks while striking out two. Hanhwa left fielder Choi Jin-haeng lead the Eagles offense by going 3-4 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored. Hanhwa DH Kim Tae-wan went 2-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.

Samsung 7, LG 0
W - Cha Woo-chan (4-1), L - Kang Cheol-min (0-1)
Samsung HR - Park Seok-min (8) LG HR - None

Who is this guy that has replaced Samsung starter Cha Woo-chan. Cha has looked like a different person. Cha has won three of his last four starts and has only given up two earned runs during that stretch. His ERA stands at 1.78 in 65 2/3 innings. Cha threw a complete game shutout(123 pitches, 84 strikes) of the Zombies on Sunday. Cha gave up seven hits and one walk while striking out three. Samsung DH Park Seok-min clubbed a solo homer in the fourth inning to give Samsung a lead. Samsung second baseman Shin Myeong-cheol drove in three runs with a double in the sixth inning and the game was pretty much over.

SK 8, KIA 2 (11)
W - Song Eun-beom (8-3), L - Ahn Yeong-myeong (5-3)
SK HR - None KIA HR - None

This game went into extras and got out of hand quickly thanks to a truly horrific effort from KIA closer Yoo Dong-hoon. SK tattooed Yoo to the tune on four hits, one walk and a hit batsman. Most of the damage came on an RBI triple from center fielder Kim Kang-min. Embattled KIA starter Aquilino Lopez has to wonder when his second win of 2010 is going to come. Lopez did all he could to beat the Wyverns. Lopez tossed eight innings(100 pitches, 66 strikes) of two-run baseball. Lopez allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out three. SK ace Kim Kwang-hyeon is having trouble finding his groove in 2010. Hanhwa ace Ryu Hyeon-jin is just dominating. Kim can be as effective as Ryu, but between his late start and some command issues, Kim hasn't had the dominating efforts that Ryu has had this year. Kim stuck around for 6 1/3 innings(110 pitches, 65 strikes) of one-run ball. Kim allowed five hits and three walks while striking out eight.
