7/7 Roundup and News

Doosan/KIA was rained out last night. The KIA losing streak stands at fifteen.

Samsung 9, SK 6
W - Lim Jin-woo (2-0), L - Jeong Woo-ram (5-4), S - Jeong Hyeon-wook (10)
Samsung HR - Chae Tae-in 3(12) SK HR - Park Jae-sang (6)

Samsung first baseman Chae Tae-in had a career day. Chae went 3-3 with two walks and three(!) solo homers. Samsung broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning when infielder Shin Myeong-cheol singled up the middle with a runner on second. Samsung took a 6-5 lead into the ninth when they rallied for three runs. Samsung corner infielder Park Seok-min started the rally with an RBI double. Samsung loaded the bases and scored another run when Jin Kab-yong grounded into a double play. Shortstop Kim Sang-su singled in a third and final run. These insurance runs proved to be the difference on the scoreboard because SK picked up a run in the bottom the ninth with an RBI single from Jeong Geun-woo, but it was too little, too late.

Hanhwa 10, LG 7
W - Julio DePaula (3-8), L - Lee Sang-yeol (2-2), S - Park Jeong-jin (2)
Hanhwa HR - Kang Dong-woo (2), Kim Tae-wan (11) LG HR - None

What a mess of a game this was. It took about an hour longer than any other game to complete. It's like these teams want you to feel how bad they are. Watching two really mediocre teams for four hours? No thanks. Julio DePaula was knocked around in the early innings, but left in to eat up a bunch of innings. LG chose to start Han Hee and he was predictably lit up...as were most of the LG relievers. The LG offense did show up to make the game competitive. DH Lee Taek-geun, right fielder Lee Byeong-gyu and first baseman Lee Jin-yeong each drove in two runs. Hanhwa catcher Lee Hee-geun lead the Eagles offense by going 2-3 with a walk, three RBIs and a run scored.

Nexen 3, Lotte 2
W - Adrian Burnside (8-7), L - Ryan Sadowski (6-6), S - Son Seung-rak (14)
Nexen HR - Jang Ki-yeong (1) Lotte HR - Jeon Joon-woo (8)

Adrian Burnside turned in his typical outing. He tossed about five innings, gave up a couple of runs and put the game squarely in the hands of the bullpen. Burnside gave up two runs during his five+ innings(95 pitches, 48 strikes). He gave up six hits and five walks while striking out two. Nexen center fielder Jang Ki-yeong lead off the game with a solo homer and left fielder Yoo Han-joon hit a two-run double in the fourth inning. Lotte chipped away at the lead in the sixth inning when outfielder Jeon Joon-woo hit a solo homer and Lotte infielder Jeong Bo-myeong hit a sac fly with a runner on third. Ryan Sadowski deserved better. Ryan managed to eat up eight innings(102 pitches, 63 strikes) and keep the shallow end of the Lotte bullpen out of the game. Ryan gave up three runs on three hits, three walks and one hit batsman while striking out two. Nexen closer Son Seung-rak closed the door on a Lotte comeback when he recorded the final five outs in order for the save.

Does anybody know what the record is for most homeruns in a single game in Korea? 3 dingers is very good...I don't think I've seen or heard of too many of these in the KBO. In the US, so many players have 4 in one game, so I was just curious about Korea...or even Japan, if anybody knows that as well.

I know that SK Wyverns catcher Park Kyeong-wan hit four in a game. I'm fairly certain that's the KBO record
