Hanhwa ace Ryu Hyeon-jin had a rough first inning, but he pitched out of it and hung on for the W. Hanhwa gave Ryu a lead after a two-run rally in the top of the first, but Ryu gave it right back to Nexen. Ryu gave up a single to third baseman Kim Min-woo and a double second baseman Kim Il-kyeong to start the inning. Both runners when right fielder Lee Sang-hoon lost a ball in the lights. He never made a play on the ball, so it wasn't ruled an error. Nexen left fielder Yoo Han-joon got a two-RBI double and Ryu was charged with both runs. Nexen added a third run on an RBI single from catcher Kang Gui-tae. Kang finished 2-4 with a homer, two RBIs and a run scored. After the rough start, Ryu settled in and stuck around for seven innings(113 pitches, 73 strikes) of four-run baseball. Ryu gave up seven hits and one walk while striking out five. Hanhwa took a 6-3 lead after a four-run fourth inning rally. The inning featured a two-run homer from outfielder Lee Yang-ki and a two-run single from second baseman Jeong Won-seok. Hanhwa reliever Park Jeong-jin threw the final two innings for the save.
Samsung 6, Doosan 4
W - Jang Won-sam (12-4), L - Hong Sang-sam (3-3), S - Bae Yeong-su (1)
Samsung HR - Park Han-yi (8), Shin Myeong-cheol (8), Hyeon Jae-yoon (1) Doosan HR - None
Samsung lit up Doosan starter Hong Sang-sam and got just enough pitching and D to hang on for the W. Hong was battered for six runs during his six innings of work. Hong gave up all three homers to Samsung while Samsung starter Jang Won-sam threw well enough to win. Jang tossed five innings(77 pitches, 55 strikes) of two-run ball. Jang gave up five hits and struck out three. Samsung's Bae Yeong-su was brought in to record the final out for the vulture save. Samsung played this game like a playoff game and used their "A" lineup for the entire game and brought in their front line relievers first.
SK 7, KIA 0
W - Jeong Woo-ram (8-4), L - Yang Hyeon-jong (14-6)
SK HR - None KIA HR - None
SK relief pitcher Lee Seung-ho was pressed into action as a starter last night. Lee was lifted after the fourth inning due to his pitch count(70 pitches, 39 strikes), but he didn't give up any runs and limited the Tigers to three hits and two walks while striking out three. Four different SK relievers combined to limit the Tigers to only two hits during the last five innings. SK third baseman Choi Jeong and first baseman Lee Ho-joon lead the Wyverns offense by driving in two runs apiece. Outfielder Lim Hoon went 4-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
