8/27 Roundup and News

LG/Samsung was washed out.

Nexen 5, Hanhwa 4
W - CJ Nitkowski (1-4), L - Choi Yeong-pil (1-4), S - Son Seung-rak (21)
Nexen HR - Kim Il-kyeong (4), Song Ji-man (14) Hanhwa HR - None

Both Nexen starter Goh Won-joon and Hanhwa starter Francisley Bueno were fairly awful. Both gave up four runs and neither made it out of the fourth inning. It came down to the battle of the bullpens and Nexen's was slightly better than Hanhwa's. Nexen pitcher CJ Nitkowski somehow threw 3 1/3 innings of shutout baseball. Nitkowski only gave up one hit and two walks while striking out one. The difference on the scoreboard came in the fifth inning. Nexen first baseman Jang Yeong-seok spanked an RBI double off of Hanhwa reliever Choi Yeong-pil to give Nexen a 5-4 lead. Nexen closer Son Seung-rak recorded the final four outs for the save.

KIA 3, SK 2 (10)
W - Ahn Yeong-myeong (6-6), L - Jeong Dae-hyeon (1-1)
KIA HR - None SK HR - None

KIA held a 2-0 lead in the eighth inning when SK mounted a rally. With two outs and the bases loaded, KIA reliever Lee Dae-jin walked SK first baseman Park Jeong-kwon to score the first SK run. Then, Lee drilled SK third baseman Choi Jeong to tie the game at two. The game was still tied at the end of nine, so on to extras they went. In the bottom of the tenth, KIA loaded the bases with two outs. The next batter, first baseman Choi Hee-seop, drew a walk to walk off the Wyverns in the least dramatic way possible. KIA starter Seo Jae-won deserved better than the ND that he received. Seo tossed six shutout innings(102 pitches, 64 strikes). Seo gave up four hits and one walk while striking out two.

Lotte 6, Doosan 5
W - Kang Yeong-sik (2-2), L - Lee Yong-chan (1-1)
Lotte HR - Son Ah-seop (11) Doosan HR - Lee Seong-yeol (21)

In the top of the ninth inning with the score tied at four, Doosan third baseman Kim Jae-ho tripled off the left field wall. Kim scored on a sac fly by center fielder Lee Jong-wook to give Doosan a 5-4 lead. The Giants struck back in the bottom of the ninth when left fielder Son Ah-seop hit a two-run homer to earn himself a Pocari shower and a beating from his teammates. Son finished the game 2-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
