5/3 Roundup and News

SK 3, Hanhwa 1
W - Kim Kwang-hyeon (2-2), L - Ahn Seung-min (1-2), S - Jeon Byeong-doo (3)
SK HR - None Hanhwa HR - Jang Seong-ho (2)

SK ace Kim Kwang-hyeon had a decent effort, but it's not like he was playing against the Doosan Bears or the Samsung Lions. This is Hanhwa. If Kim doesn't have a good outing against these guys, it's time to worry.

Kim threw 5 1/3 innings(100 pitches, 60 strikes) of one-run baseball. He made a mistake on a pitch in the fourth inning and Hanhwa DH Jang Seong-ho hit it a long way. Kim allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six.

SK scored all three runs in the first inning and coasted to a W. First baseman Park Jeong-kwon hit an RBI double and DH Park Jae-hong hit a two RBI double.

SK second baseman Jeong Geun-woo went 4-5 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Nexen 7, KIA 4
W - Ma Jeong-gil (1-1), L - Aquilino Lopez (3-2), S - Song Shin-yeong (8)
Nexen HR - Kang Byeong-sik (1) KIA HR - Cha Il-mok (2), Lee Beom-ho (5)

Nexen got on KIA starter Aquilio Lopez early and just tried to hang on for the W.

KIA threatened by getting a three-run bomb from catcher Cha Il-mok in the sixth inning and a solo homer from Lee Beom-ho in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4.

Nexen tacked on a couple insurance runs late and closer Song Shin-yeong recorded a perfect ninth inning for the save.

Nexen first baseman Lee Sung-yong lead the Nexen offense by going 2-4 with three RBIs. DH Kang Byeong-sik chipped in with a 2-4, two-run homer effort.

Lotte 5, Samsung 1
W - Song Seung-joon (2-1), L - Cha Woo-chan (3-1)
Lotte HR - None Samsung HR - Choi Hyeong-woo (4)

Lotte starter Song Seung-joon simply shut the Lions down last night. Song only made one mistake on a solo homer to Samsung left fielder Choi Hyeong-woo. Song threw 6 2/3 innings(109 pitches, 76 strikes) of one-run baseball. Song allowed only five hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Samsung starting pitcher Cha Woo-chan was simply unlucky. He gave up five runs, but only three were earned because left fielder Choi Hyeong-woo made a terrible, terrible throw on a basehit in the fifth inning. The ball didn't come out of Choi's hand cleanly and he basically threw it into the ground. Third baseman Park Seok-min also made an error that lead to a run in the fourth inning.

Lotte DH Hong Seong-heun lead the Giants' offense by going 3-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.

LG 2, Doosan 0 (10)
W - Park Hyeon-joon (4-1), L - Goh Chang-seong (1-1), S - Lee Sang-yeol (1)
LG HR - None Doosan HR - None

This game was essentially a staring contest. Both teams stared at each other until LG broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the tenth with a two-RBI single from DH Park Yong-taek.

LG starter Park Hyeon-joon threw nine innings(112 pitches, 69 strikes) of shutout baseball. Park gave up only three hits, three walks and two hit batsmen while striking out ten.

Doosan starter Kim Sun-woo was stuck with a tough luck ND. Kim threw seven shutout innings(103 pitches, 69 strikes). Kim allowed six hits, two walks and one hit batsman while striking out three.

"SK ace Kim Kwang-hyeon had a decent effort, but it's not like he was playing against the Doosan Bears or the Samsung Lions" ... or LG, they have the highest number of runs, homeruns and the highest batting average (up to now...)

Fair enough. LG absolutely deserves a mention as one of the elite offenses. Oversight on my part.

Thanks for all the round ups, it makes it much easier to follow Korean baseball from here in the UK.
