5/1 Roundup and News

Lotte 7, KIA 2

Lotte HR - Lee Dae-ho (5) KIA HR - None

The Lotte offense put up a bunch of runs in the early innings and starter Jang Won-joon was able to cruise to victory.

Jang threw seven innings(105 pitches, 64 strikes) and only gave up one run. Jang allowed six hits and one walk while striking out six. Jang had LG batters beating the ball into the turf. Jang recorded 11 ground ball outs.

Lotte first baseman Lee Dae-ho had a solid day at the plate for the Giants. The 2010 MVP went 2-2 with a solo homer and an RBI single. He also drew two walks and scored another run. Third baseman Hwang Jae-gyun went 3-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Hanhwa 3, Samsung 1
W - Ryu Hyeon-jin (2-4), L - Bae Yeong-su
Hanhwa HR - Jang Seong-ho (1) Samsung HR - None

Hanhwa ace Ryu Hyeon-jin was too much for the Samsung offense. Ryu threw a complete game(134 pitches, 86 strikes) and only gave up the one run. Ryu allowed four hits and struck out six. After this outing Ryu lowered his season ERA to 4.28.

Hanhwa DH Jang Seong-ho hit a two-run homer in he first inning that wound up being the difference in the game. Samsung starter Bae Yeong-su was surprisingly effective in his outing.

Bae threw eight innings(102 pitches, 70 strikes) and gave up the two runs. Bae allowed six hits and two walks while striking out two. He managed to record 14 ground ball outs.

SK 3, Doosan 1
W - Gary Glover (2-0), L - Kim Seong-bae (1-1), S - Jeong Woo-ram (2)
SK HR - None Doosan HR - None

SK starter Gary Glover allowed a run in the first inning after giving up a triple to Doosan right fielder Jeong Su-bin. Jeong was sacrificed in by first baseman Oh Jae-won. After the first inning, Glover put seven zeroes on the scoreboard. Gary was a ground ball machine.

Glover threw eight innings(100 pitches, 65 strikes) and only gave up the one run. Glover allowed two hits and one walk while striking out seven.

The Wyverns offense pieced together a few one-run innings and managed to give Glover a lead. SK DH Lee Ho-joon went 3-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Nexen 10, LG 9 (11)
W - Song Shin-yeong (2-0), L - Kim Kwang-su (1-1), S - Lee Bo-geun (1)
Nexen HR - None LG HR - None

If someone would have told me that these two teams combined fo 19 runs, I would have assumed that they hit 19 solo homers.

After a Nexen rallied for three runs in the top of the eight inning to take a 9-8 lead, LG rallied right back. The Twins tied the game with an RBI single from DH Park Yong-taek. Park finished the game 3-6 with a double.

Nexen center fielder Yoo Han-joon hit his third double of the game in the top of the eleventh inning. The next batter, shortstop Kang Jeong-ho, hit a single that scored Yoo and gave Nexen a 10-9 lead.

Yoo finished the game 4-5 with a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored. Kang ended up 2-7 with one RBI and one run scored.

Nexen reliever Lee Bo-geun threw a scoreless eleventh inning to earn his first save of the season.

LG right fielder Lee Jin-yeong had a great day in a losing cause. Lee finished 5-6 with a triple, three RBIs and four runs scored.
